RITUAL.
I don’t think I’m alone in that spending more time at home I’ve naturally given a lot more attention to my plants. In fact when visiting the garden centre last week I found out there is a national shortage of houseplant compost.. so I’m pretty certain it’s not just me! Only a few years ago I would struggle to keep one plant alive, but now I am struggling to keep up with their growth! It’s a satisfying sight to watch things grow. So after repotting and moving them around, I have found ritual in checking in with them all daily.
Overall, I like that it takes time, slowing down to really observe. To understand their needs through the subtle hints of yellowing or slightly drooping leaves- the key being noticing these signs before it even becomes obvious, this is when you can begin to truly help them thrive. Do they need more light? More water? Or perhaps I’ve been watering them too much…
I am still getting to grips with our garden, the outdoors- a new world I am now learning about. Having a garden is such a privilege but I also feel a responsibility. I feel it to be my part of nature to protect and support, rather than manipulate too much. Please let me know any recommendations on gardening books and permaculture?
NOURISH.
I can’t take the credit for growing these as it was my husband Al who produced these beautiful pink oyster mushrooms.
It was amazing to experience eating mushrooms so fresh!
SELF PRACTICE.
My self practice this month…other than a lot of meditation and slow movement was to keep my space tidy. I can’t say I’ve achieved that perfectly. But it’s something I’ve at least been trying to be more conscious of this month. I’m aware that my environment deeply affects my state of mind, although it’s at those times when I am struggling to stay positive and feeling weighed down that it seems the hardest to make myself do.
however, sometime when you are feeling a little stuck or weighed down, tidying and rearranging your space can
